What to try
- Map atomic radius. Why do the atoms get bigger as you move down a group but smaller as you move left to right?
- Switch to ionization energy. Why does it climb toward the top-right corner — the exact opposite of radius?
- Trace electronegativity down group 17 (the halogens). Where does the strongest electron-grabber sit, and why fluorine?
- Look at electron affinity across period 2. Why do nitrogen and the noble gases refuse to fit the smooth trend?
- Compare the transition metals in a period against the main-group elements. Why are their trends so much flatter?
